Patterns! Patterns! Patterns!
We have gone pattern crazy in Room 3!!!
The children have been busy creating repeated patterns using all sorts of equipment. They have been learning what makes a pattern, how it repeats, what comes next in a pattern and to talk about the pattern they have made.
This morning we had pattern stations and the children all worked super hard making a repeated pattern before moving on to the next station.

Easter is coming!
It is nearly Easter and we have been reading, talking and writing about the Easter bunny. He has also featured in a maths task we will be doing this week.
Here are some of the gorgeous Easter bunny pictures we have drawn.

Sumdog
The children have all been given their passwords for sumdog.com.
Sumdog is a maths website which provides a variety of games the children can play. These games help our children with their maths learning and reinforcing basic maths understandings.
Some of the children have enjoyed logging into sumdog in the mornings or during maths time, it is great to see them applying their maths knowledge and working together to solve problems.

Making icecream
We have been reading the big book The Giants Ice cream. In the book the giant really likes ice cream and eats lots of it, so much that he gets stuck in the doorway!
Reading this book inspired us to make our own ice cream, we used a simple recipe and the children all helped to mix and stir the ingredients together. We had some great discussions about what ice cream is made from, what we have to do to make it into ice cream and how it is a special treat food (not something for everyday)
Once we had left our ice cream in the freezer overnight the children were keen to try it out, have a look at these faces to see if they enjoyed it!

A visit from Constable Lorena
As part of our Kia Kaha unit, today we had a visit from Constable Lorena. Constable Lorena talked to us about bullying, what it is and what we should do about it. It was great for the children to hear from Constable Lorena about the importance of telling a teacher, about treating each other nicely and about how we all have choices.
As well as discussing things, the children participated in role play, looked at photos and were able to share their thoughts and feelings. We look forward to having Constable Lorena back again next week.

Visiting the library
Every Monday we visit the school library. The children enjoy exploring the library, looking through new books and choosing which book they would like to take home. They are learning how to find books on the shelves, how to shelve books according to the letter on the spine and about how we behave in the library.
Remember they can keep their library book for the whole week, just make sure the library bag with the book comes back on Monday morning.
